The Oslofjord Triennial
is a cross-disciplinary art project of both local and international scale, and the first of its kind dedicated to the restoration of a fjord. The inaugural edition took place in 2024 across three different venues in and around the Inner Oslofjord, with the island of Lågøya serving as the main hub alongside the Stein smallholding on Nesodden and Brønnøya in Asker. While the second edition is scheduled for 2027, the project continues to host smaller-scale gathering points in the interim.
The triennial is grounded in the capacity of art to make complex interconnections sensory, experiential, and accessible. Through artistic expression, the hidden processes beneath the fjord's surface can take shape, find a voice, and establish a presence. Art poses new questions, creates space for ambiguity, and opens up critical perspectives on established narratives regarding nature, culture, development, and responsibility.
The initiative encompasses interdisciplinary platforms for artistic research, activism, exhibitions, and discursive events, as well as site development and artist-led networks. The project places a particular emphasis on art in public outdoor spaces. The Oslofjord Triennial is owned and operated by Kristin Bergaust, Camilla Dahl, Vibeke Hermanrud, Mari LB Kamsvaag, and Linn Cecilie Ulvin. This collective brings together expertise in visual arts, performing arts, literature, technology, research, and curatorial practice, operating from an independent eco-feminist standpoint.
