A digital resource for sustainable artistic development

The goal of this online resource is to provide artists and organizers affiliated with the Oslofjord Triennial with inspiration and tools for developing sustainable art production and public engagement. Developed between 2022 and 2023, the initiative serves as a knowledge base for anyone in the art field working at the intersection of art and ecology.

There has long been a need within the visual arts field for a resource of this kind, capable of supporting cultural producers in their ambitions to contribute to sustainable development. This is particularly relevant given the wide variation and diversity across artistic productions. These differences manifest both throughout the art production value chain, including material selection, energy use, and transport, as well as within the broader ecosystem and context of the artwork, such as its site, mediation, and local environment.

The digital resource is divided into five main areas:
  • UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Role of Art - The Sustainable Development Goals define sustainable development as development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
  • From linear to circular- How to transition from a linear to a circular resource model across all sectors of society, including art and culture?
  • Tools and Resources - A broad selection of resource pages and tools to inspire a sustainable art practice.
  • Art Production - Examples of how to foster awareness around one's own sustainable choices in relation to various art forms.
  • Checklist- Useful tips on what to consider and account for across various types of artistic production.
